Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will provide us with good options within the squad - Ipswich Town manager Gary O’Neil

Ipswich Town manager Gary O'Neil has expressed his excitement following the arrival of Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, describing the winger as a player capable of adding quality and versatility to his squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The 22-year-old completed a permanent switch from Leicester City to the Tractor Boys, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031.

Issahaku joins Ipswich after three years with Leicester City, where he established himself as one of the club's brightest attacking talents.

He has already linked up with his new teammates at the club's pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as preparations intensify for the new campaign.

Speaking after securing the Ghanaian's signature, O'Neil highlighted Issahaku's experience despite his young age and believes the winger possesses the attributes needed to make an impact in the Premier League.

“Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game and we’re excited to have him with us," O'Neil told the club website.

The Ipswich boss also praised the former Sporting CP player for his physical qualities, technical ability and willingness to take on defenders, insisting he will strengthen the attacking options available to the club.

“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad."

Issahaku arrives at Portman Road after representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he was part of the Black Stars squad that reached the Round of 32 before bowing out to Colombia.

O'Neil believes the winger is eager to put his international experience behind him and focus on helping Ipswich compete in their return to the Premier League.

“Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season.”

Issahaku will now be aiming to make an immediate impression during pre-season as Ipswich continue their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
