Communications Director at the Office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says the allegations surrounding his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have taken a devastating toll on his family, revealing that his wife packed her belongings and was ready to leave him.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Mr. Aboagye said he has been deeply hurt by the public allegations made against him, insisting that he has been “humiliated, defamed, unfairly treated and maligned.”

“I have been defamed and maligned. I am sad. My wife has even packed her bags. Someone even said I have three wives. They have done me a lot of disservice,” he said.

Mr Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials at the Kotoka International Airport on July 12, 2026, over investigations into alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD). He was released two days later after meeting GH¢50 million bail conditions.

EOCO has stated that the investigation relates to the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million during Mr Aboagye’s time at the institution.

However, the NPP communicator rejected the allegation, insisting that at no point during his engagements with investigators was he questioned over GH¢55 million.

“My problem is with their official statement after my arrest. In all my engagements with them, there was no GH¢55 million I was being investigated for,” he said.

According to him, the issues discussed with investigators centred on procurement and consultancy transactions involving much smaller amounts.

“It was GH¢9 million and GH¢5,000. GH¢5.2 million in terms of procurement — all of that are processes. But where from the GH¢55 million? The organisation didn’t even have such an amount,” he argued.

He questioned why EOCO’s public statement referred to GH¢55 million when, according to him, the figures under discussion were significantly lower.

“How do you discuss GH¢5.2 million consultancy work with me and put out a statement that you are investigating me for GH¢55 million? What would you get for doing that?” he asked.

Mr Aboagye maintained that he cooperated fully with investigators throughout the process and expressed surprise at being arrested.

“I was cooperating with EOCO through every step. I didn’t even know people were outside protesting. It was when they were moving me to go and search my house that I saw the crowd outside. I was shocked,” he recounted.

He said he had no difficulty with political opponents commenting on his arrest, describing such reactions as part of normal political competition, but maintained that EOCO’s official communication unfairly tarnished his reputation.

The former IMCCoD Executive Secretary also alleged that some of the accusations against him were being fuelled by his successor at the institution, whom he accused of pursuing a personal vendetta.

“False claims by some persons close to EOCO got my wife packing her things and ready to leave. All of these were orchestrated by the current Executive Director of IMCC, a man I helped secure a permanent job in the civil service,” he alleged.
