2026 World Cup: Ghana earns $13.5m for reaching knockout phase

Ghana’s Black Stars have guaranteed at least $13.5 million in FIFA prize money after progressing to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions booked their place in the knockout phase after finishing third in Group L with four points from three matches.

FIFA has set aside a record $871 million in total team payments for the tournament, including $655 million in performance-related prize money, $120 million in preparation grants, and additional operational support.

All participating teams receive $2.5 million in preparation funding. Teams eliminated at the group stage earn $10 million in performance payments, bringing their minimum total to $12.5 million.

By advancing to the Round of 32, Ghana’s earnings rise to at least $13.5 million, combining the preparation grant with $11 million awarded for reaching the first knockout round.

The prize scale continues to increase with progression through the tournament: $15 million for the Round of 16, $19 million for the quarter-finals, $27 million for fourth place, $29 million for third, $33 million for runners-up, and $50 million for the champions. These figures exclude preparation funding.

The Black Stars now turn their attention to a Round of 32 clash against Colombia on Saturday, July 4, at Kansas City Stadium.

The 2026 edition is the first World Cup to feature 48 teams and a Round of 32 stage, introducing an expanded knockout format and an updated prize structure for advancing nations.
