Queiroz hails Black Stars' fighting spirit after England draw

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has praised his players for their determination and commitment after Ghana earned a valuable point against England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that every point secured at the tournament comes at a high cost.

Ghana produced another disciplined performance to hold England to a goalless draw in their Group L clash in Boston, extending their unbeaten start to the competition and preserving a flawless defensive record following their opening 1-0 victory over Panama.

Addressing reporters after the match, Queiroz highlighted the intensity of World Cup football, stressing that points are earned only through immense sacrifice, hard work and unwavering commitment on the pitch.

“To collect points in this World Cup, you have to pay a high price; the points are very expensive…the wins and points are terribly expensive. When you get three points and one point, you have to celebrate because it was a lot of runs, a lot of sacrifices, a lot of commitment…during the game,” he said.

The Portuguese coach commended his players for executing their game plan effectively and maintaining their discipline against an England side that struggled to find a way through Ghana's organised and resolute defence.

Despite being satisfied with the result, Queiroz suggested the Black Stars were unfortunate not to leave with maximum points, pointing to what he believed was a decisive refereeing error.

“We had our chances to the point that they are lucky, they are very lucky. It was a clear penalty [on Prince Kwabena Adu by Ezri Konsa] and a red card. At the end of the day, that's why I say it was a fair result,” he added.

The draw strengthens Ghana's position in Group L, with the Black Stars now on four points from two matches and yet to concede a goal. The result keeps their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage firmly on track as they continue their World Cup campaign.
