The Black Stars of Ghana enhanced their prospects of reaching the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after earning a hard-fought goalless draw against England's Three Lions at the Boston Stadium.
Ghana delivered a disciplined and tactically astute performance, with head coach Carlos Queiroz deploying a compact 5-4-1 formation that effectively frustrated England's attacking ambitions throughout the contest.
From the opening whistle, the Black Stars remained organised at the back, limiting England's space and opportunities in the final third. Central defenders Jonas Adjetey and Eric Opoku were particularly impressive, dominating aerial battles and keeping the English forwards under control.
Despite enjoying the majority of possession, England struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half as Ghana's defensive structure repeatedly denied them access to dangerous areas.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare enjoyed a relatively quiet opening period, with the Three Lions failing to seriously test him. England captain Harry Kane was largely kept out of the game, with his most promising first half effort blocked by Ghana's resolute defence.
The Black Stars returned from the break with greater confidence on the ball and enjoyed improved spells of possession, further frustrating their opponents and disrupting England's rhythm.
England finally threatened in the 57th minute when Eric Gordon found space inside the area, but Asare produced an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Sensing an opportunity to hurt England on the counterattack, Queiroz introduced Fatawu Issahaku and Prince Adu Kwabena to inject pace and energy into Ghana's attack.
The Three Lions increased the intensity of their attacks in the latter stages, with Kane forcing another save from Asare in the 69th minute. However, the Ghanaian goalkeeper remained composed and dependable between the posts.
Ghana came agonisingly close to snatching all three points when Prince Adu Kwabena broke through on goal, only to be denied in a one-on-one situation by England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
England also had a golden opportunity to claim victory, but Kane failed to convert from close range. Moments later, substitute Oppong Peprah produced a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve Ghana's clean sheet and ensure the Black Stars emerged with a valuable point.
The result leaves Ghana and England level on four points in Group L, placing both sides in a strong position as they continue their pursuit of qualification to the Round of 32.
