2026 World Cup: Black Stars will improve step by step, says head coach Carlos Queiroz

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence that his team will continue to develop steadily as they settle into their new tactical approach at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana began their campaign with a narrow but significant 1-0 victory over Panama, a result secured deep into stoppage time.

The breakthrough came when Caleb Yirenkyi finished off a cross from Brandon Thomas-Asante, breaking the deadlock in a match that had looked destined for a draw.

Queiroz highlighted the importance of patience as the team adapts to his system, stressing that progress will come with time and repetition.

"We are growing as a team," he said. "We are playing a different system, and our attacking methods are built around the profile of our players.

"We want vertical football and full-speed action. Step by step, the players will improve and adjust to each other," Queiroz added.

The result places Ghana second in Group L, behind England, who made an early statement with a 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening fixture.

Attention now turns to a blockbuster clash against the Three Lions on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, before Ghana conclude their group-stage fixtures against Croatia four days later.

With three points already on the board, the Black Stars will look to build momentum as they chase a place in the knockout rounds — a stage they have not reached since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
