MultiChoice Ghana launches GH¢58 World Cup package, warns against broadcast piracy

MultiChoice Ghana has introduced what it describes as its most affordable FIFA World Cup offering yet, allowing football fans across the country to access all 104 matches of the 2026 tournament for as little as GH¢58.

The company has also issued a strong warning against piracy, saying it will work with security agencies to arrest offenders.

Speaking at the launch of DStv’s 2026 FIFA World Cup coverage, MultiChoice Ghana Country CEO Alex Okyere said the company is collaborating with the police, customs, and other law enforcement bodies to crack down on illegal transmission of matches during the tournament.

He stressed that piracy would not be tolerated, cautioning that offenders would be pursued and prosecuted. According to him, only licensed broadcasters are permitted to show the games.

Okyere explained that while selected matches will be available on free-to-air platforms, only DStv and GOtv will carry full live coverage of all 104 games. He added that any unlicensed broadcaster attempting to air the tournament would face sanctions.

Head of Communications at MultiChoice Ghana, Afua Kissi Nyame, described the GH¢58 package as the company’s most accessible World Cup campaign to date. She said the offer is designed to ensure wider access to the tournament, which will feature Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars.

She also highlighted enhanced coverage plans from SuperSport, including punditry led by former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and the introduction of local language commentary in Twi, among others.

Nyame and Okyere both reiterated a firm stance on piracy, noting that the company is working with relevant security agencies to clamp down on illegal broadcasts.

Okyere further urged fans not to miss what he called the biggest sporting event in the world, pointing to Ghana’s participation as an added incentive.

He said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to make DStv more affordable and accessible beyond the tournament period.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11 across Mexico, Canada and the United States, with the final scheduled for July 19 in New Jersey.

DStv subscribers across Access, Family, Compact, Compact+ and Premium packages will have full access to all matches in HD. Dedicated SuperSport channels will be converted into World Cup hubs, offering continuous coverage, analysis, and documentaries.

Fans will also be able to stream matches via the DStv app, with replays available shortly after full-time.
