Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to allow for critical repair works on its transmission pipeline.
The shutdown is expected to affect water supply to customers within the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and adjoining communities for two days.
According to the company, the maintenance exercise will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, and end at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11.
In a press release issued on Friday, June 5, GWL said the repair works are necessary to protect the transmission infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted service delivery in the future.
“The repair works are critical to safeguard the integrity of the transmission pipeline and ensure its continuous and reliable operation,” the company stated.
To facilitate the exercise, management said operations at the treatment plant will be suspended throughout the maintenance period.
The company advised residents and businesses in affected areas to make adequate preparations ahead of the shutdown.
“Management of Ghana Water Limited regrets any inconvenience that may result from this critical maintenance exercise and advises customers to store adequate water for use during the shutdown period,” the statement added.
GWL assured customers that water production and supply would resume immediately after the completion of the repair works.
