Ghana's emerging football talents are set to receive a significant boost as Danish footballer Laura Juul Hansen, through her non-profit organisation, Sport Creates Memories, leads an initiative to bring Italian club Como 1907 to Ghana this month.
The visit forms part of Hansen's broader vision of creating meaningful opportunities for talented young footballers through the NGO.
This will be the second time Como 1907 has visited Ghana to partner with the former Police Ladies player on this laudable initiative.
Having spent years building relationships within the European football industry, Hansen believes that talent exists everywhere, but opportunities do not always reach those who deserve them most. Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Hansen said:
"Five years ago, I started a project called Sport Creates Memories, a non-profit organisation that aims to create better grassroots football infrastructure in Ghana and other African countries. I had the privilege of growing up in Denmark, where I could play football whenever I wanted and for almost any club I wished to join. Because of those opportunities, I was able to develop my talent, represent Denmark at the youth national team level, and win a championship with my club, HB Køge."
She continued: "Most children can play football if they come from backgrounds where their parents can afford it. However, in Ghana, now that I have lived here, I have seen how difficult it can be for children from communities and villages to participate in sports, especially when their parents cannot afford the associated costs. Even registration fees can be a challenge. Five years ago, I decided I wanted to return to Ghana and do something meaningful to help."
The upcoming visit by Como 1907 presents a unique opportunity for Ghanaian youngsters to showcase their abilities in front of representatives from one of Italy's most ambitious clubs. The Serie A side, managed by former Spanish international and FIFA World Cup winner Cesc Fàbregas, has earned widespread recognition for its progressive approach to player development and talent recruitment.
Hansen also highlighted the significance of the collaboration with Como 1907.
"I established a partnership with Como last year after speaking with their president, Mirwan Suwarso, and they agreed to support our project. The assistance they have provided has been incredible. Como is committed to grassroots development and foundation work. While the primary focus is development, it is possible that exceptional talents could eventually find pathways to Como or other clubs in the future."
A series of activities has been planned for the delegation's visit, including a dinner hosted by the current Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Laura Ranalli.
ArthurLegacy CEO Oliver Arthur, who will be working closely with Hansen during the visit, praised the initiative and believes it will have a lasting impact on young footballers in Ghana.
"Laura is doing amazing work, and when she approached me to support this project, I did not hesitate. These are the kinds of initiatives we should all be supporting, and I am delighted to be part of it," Arthur said.
The Como 1907 delegation is scheduled to arrive in Ghana on Saturday, June 6, 2026, for a week-long programme aimed at supporting grassroots football development and creating opportunities for talented young players.
Sport Creates Memories currently supports more than 17,000 children across Ghana, Kenya, and Côte d'Ivoire through its grassroots sports and development initiatives
