GBA elections postponed as GBIMC extends vetting process

The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced the postponement of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board Elections, which were originally scheduled to take place on June 4, 2026.

In a statement signed by GBIMC Chairman Samir Captan, the committee said the decision was reached in consultation with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to ensure a fair, transparent, and constitutionally compliant electoral process.

According to the statement, the postponement follows several appeals from aspiring candidates seeking amendments, corrections, and the opportunity to submit additional documentation required for the vetting process.

The committee noted that the move is intended to prevent any candidate from being unfairly excluded from the elections.

As part of the revised timetable, the GBIMC will conduct a final vetting session for all aspirants at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The committee has also introduced a mandatory Fitness-For-Role (FFR) evaluation for candidates contesting the key leadership positions of President, First Vice President, and Second Vice President. The additional assessment is aimed at strengthening the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.

The GBIMC indicated that a new date for the Elective Extraordinary Congress will be announced after the completion of the vetting exercise and subsequent consultations with stakeholders.

The committee reiterated its commitment to conducting both the vetting and election processes in a transparent, fair, and accountable manner, while ensuring strict adherence to the Ghana Boxing Authority Constitution.

Stakeholders have been assured that every effort is being made to safeguard the integrity of the elections and promote confidence in the future leadership of Ghana boxing.
