The Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has reaffirmed her commitment to sports development by hosting officers and athletes of the Ghana Prisons Armwrestling team to a special luncheon in Accra.
The event brought together officers, referees, athletes and officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation to celebrate the Prisons team’s outstanding performance at the recently concluded African Armwrestling Championship held in Accra, while also motivating them ahead of future competitions.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie commended the athletes for their discipline, dedication and pursuit of excellence, noting that their achievements continue to elevate the image of the Ghana Prisons Service both at home and abroad.
She underscored the importance of sports within the security services, describing it as a vital tool for promoting unity, teamwork and mental resilience.
According to her, the success of the armwrestling team serves as a source of pride and inspiration, and she urged the athletes to remain focused and strive for even greater accomplishments on the national and international stage.
One of the emotional highlights of the luncheon came when members of the Ghana Prisons Armwrestling team presented medals and honours won at various competitions to the Director General as a gesture of appreciation for her unwavering support and encouragement.
Officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, including the federation’s president, vice president and technical officers, were also present at the ceremony.
The federation officials praised the Ghana Prisons Service for its growing commitment to the development and promotion of armwrestling, describing the Prisons team as one of the strongest institutional forces in the sport in Ghana.
They noted that the team has played a major role in increasing the visibility and popularity of armwrestling through consistent performances and talent development.
Beyond the celebrations, the luncheon provided an avenue for interaction between management and athletes, with discussions focusing on performance improvement, talent nurturing and preparations for upcoming national and continental championships.
The Ghana Prisons Service has long maintained a strong tradition of sporting excellence, producing some of the country’s finest athletes and continuing to make significant contributions to the growth of armwrestling in Ghana.
