Midfielder Salim Adams delivered from the spot in the closing stages to secure Medeama a deserved 1-1 draw against Bechem United in an entertaining Ghana Premier League clash at Nana Gyeabour Park on Saturday.
Medeama dictated much of the contest and fashioned the clearer chances, but it was Bechem United who broke the deadlock against the run of play.
Veteran forward Augustine Okrah finished off a swift counter-attack in the 69th minute, meeting Yaw Annor’s precise delivery with a composed strike to put the hosts ahead. His celebrations, however, came at a cost as he was booked for removing his shirt.
Moments before the opener, Medeama had come close through Salim Adams, whose trademark free kick forced a sharp save from goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning in the 62nd minute. Kingsley Braye also threatened on the break but saw his effort dramatically cleared off the line.
With the clock winding down, Medeama’s pressure finally told. A late foul on Prince Owusu inside the penalty area handed the visitors a lifeline, and Adams stepped up to calmly convert, drawing his side level and earning a valuable point.
The result lifts Bechem United to seventh place on 37 points, though they remain 13 points behind the league leaders as the title race intensifies.
Bechem United will travel to face Hohoe United in their next outing, while Medeama turn their attention to a heavyweight clash against Asante Kotoko on Matchday 29.
