Accra Lions have officially been relegated from the Ghana Premier League following a 2-0 defeat to Dreams FC in their final home match of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite starting brightly and creating several chances, Accra Lions failed to capitalise on their early dominance.
The match saw a turning point in the 27th minute when tensions flared over refereeing decisions, resulting in yellow cards for Lions’ players Awoute and Setordjie after protesting.
The first half ended in a stalemate, but Dreams FC found the breakthrough shortly after the restart. Razak Salifu opened the scoring in the 51st minute, giving the visitors the lead.
With six minutes remaining, Aziz Musibau sealed the victory with a second goal, dashing any hopes of a late comeback.
The loss confirmed Accra Lions’ relegation, bringing their five-year stay in the top flight to an end.
The club first entered Ghana Division One Zone 3 in 2018 and earned promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, impressively scoring 57 goals in 28 matches.
What began as a season filled with potential has ended in disappointment. Accra Lions now face the challenge of rebuilding in Division One as they aim for a swift return to top-flight football.
