Ghana’s U-15 girls, known as the Black Damsels, have secured a historic place in the final of the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship—achieving the feat in their debut appearance at the tournament.
In a thrilling semifinal clash on Friday, April 25, at the University of Ghana, the host nation edged out defending champions South Africa with a narrow 3-2 victory.
The Black Damsels opened the scoring early in the game when Hajara Adam delivered a precise cross that was expertly headed in by Jennifer Awuku. The goal marked Awuku’s third of the competition, following a brace in the group stage.
South Africa responded through Lisakhanya Situlweni, who broke through the Ghanaian defense to slot past goalkeeper Zulaiha Sulemana, leveling the score at 1-1 before halftime.
After the break, Hajara Adam restored Ghana’s lead with a stunning long-range free kick. Moments later, Rahama Azimpaga Mohammed extended the advantage to 3-1 with a well-taken goal.
South Africa threatened a late comeback after a defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal, bringing the score to 3-2. Despite the late scare, Ghana held firm to seal their place in the final.
The Black Damsels will now face Uganda in the championship match after they defeated Morocco in the other semifinal.
