Angola's coach, Pedro Goncalves, has expressed optimism that their upcoming matches against Ghana will be an exciting display of African football talent.
Ghana is set to face Angola in their Group F opener of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, September 5, at 16:00 GMT.
Speaking at a press conference after Angola's arrival in Kumasi, Goncalves highlighted the quality of both teams.
“For sure, both teams have very good players with good moments so I feel [the match] will be a good promotion of African football," he said.
In previous encounters during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, Ghana narrowly defeated Angola 1-0 in Kumasi, with Antoine Semenyo scoring a late goal.
The teams later played out a 1-1 draw in Luanda, with both securing qualification for the tournament.
Angola reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON but were eliminated by Nigeria in a 1-0 defeat, while Ghana had a disappointing campaign, exiting in the group stage without a win.
However, the Black Stars have bounced back, recording victories over Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
