The maiden edition of the Ghana Swim League for the 2022/2023 season went to another level as Meet 3 brought more excitement and competition among the participating clubs at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
The league which started in November 5, 2022 with 6 teams in Ghana for Meet 1 keeps improving as Dolphin Swim Center made their debut in Meet 3 which took place on January 28, 2023 bringing the total swim clubs in the Ghana Swim League to 9 having gone from 6 clubs to 8 clubs in Meet 2 and now, from 8 to 9 clubs on at the end of Meet 3.
The Swim League saw many surprises as Alexis Smith, a 4year-old-girl from Torpedo Swim Club set a national record by becoming the youngest athlete to compete in the Ghana Swim League after leapfrogging the record holder Nnenna Njoku, 5 years of age from GH Dolphins. Elsewhere, Ghana’s two-time Olympian Abeiku Gyekye Jackson failed to show up for his club, GH Dolphins for Meet 3 at the GAF Sports Complex.

Events participated in Meet 3 for the morning schedule included, Boys/Girls 50 LC Meter Backstroke, Boys/Girls 50 LC Meter Breaststroke, Boys/Girls 50 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys/Girls 10 and Under 4×100 LC Meter Medley Relay, Boys/Girls 11-14 4×100 LC Meter Medley Relay, Boys/Girls 15 and Over 4×100 LC Meter Medley Relay.
The afternoon schedule produced actions in Boys/Girls 9 and Over 200 LC Meter Breaststroke, Boys/Girls 11 and Over 400 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys/Girls 11 and Over 200 LC Meter Butterfly, Mixed 10 and Under 4×50 LC Meter Freestyle Relay, Mixed 11-14 4×50 LC Meter Freestyle Relay and finally, Mixed 15 and Over 4×50 LC Meter Freestyle Relay.
Over 196 athletes were expected to compete ranging from the record-breaking age 4 to age 31 at the GAF Sports Complex. Executive Board member of the Ghana Swim League, Ralph Quaye spoke to Ermines Onyema, media reporter from Radio Windy Bay.
“I think generally, there have been significant progress. In Meet 2, we had 6 teams participating, since then we’ve had a team from Kumasi joining us, one from Takoradi and generally, the events have been better. We’ve had the opportunity to give the audience a score board so they can follow live what is going on to know as it happens,” Ralph said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Swim League Meet 4 is scheduled to bounce back on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp.
