Ex-Black Stars winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie comes out from retirement to join Dutch club

Former Ghana international Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has made a return to football after ending his career three years ago.

Graphic Sports Online can exclusively reveal that the fleet-footed winger has signed for Dutch amateur division club SV Robinhood Amsterdam on a two-year deal as they seek to qualify for the professional league.

Owusu-Abeyie was persuaded by his friend Steven Pienaar, who coached Robinhood last season, to join the club and help in their quest to play at a higher level.

The 34-year-old last played for Dutch outfit NEC in 2017 after which he quit football to pursue a career in rap music under the name "Blow" and released two albums and three solo tracks.

Once touted among the best players in the world, Owusu-Abeyie's career took a nosedive after he left Arsenal for Spartak Moscow in 2006 and spent the next eleven years playing for several clubs, including Al Sadd, Panathinaikos, Boavista and others.

On the international scene, he played for the Dutch national under-20 team in the 2005 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada but switched allegiance to Ghana in 2008 where he made 17 appearances and scored two goals.

He featured in the Ghana team which placed third at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and was also part of the Black Stars' squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
