Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has urged upcoming entertainers to embrace persistence, citing the story of filmmaker Funke Akindele as an example of delayed success.
She shared this insight during a masterclass session hosted by actor Femi Adebayo at his new media hub, Euphoria 360.
Akintola maintained that Akindele did not achieve her massive success overnight. The energetic veteran recalled seeing the filmmaker on set for years, struggling without getting the chance to shine.
According to her, Akindele’s defining trait was sheer persistence, and she never gave up. She moved to the Yoruba film industry, started acting and producing, and eventually created 'Jenifa', which made her globally recognized.
Akintola noted that many young people want to replicate Akindele's success without understanding her backstory or the struggles she endured.
The veteran actress stressed that true success is never an overnight phenomenon and encouraged her audience to remain steadfast through their own challenges.
She said:
"She has been in the industry for a long time. She didn’t make it overnight. I remember seeing her on set; she was there for years, struggling. Nobody gave her the chance to shine. One thing she had was persistence; she never gave up. She moved to the Yoruba industry, started acting and producing, and before you know it, she did Jenifa, and the whole world knows who she is."
"So many of you now want to be like Funke Akindele; you don’t know her backstory, you don’t know her struggles. You figure it is overnight; no, it isn’t overnight."
