The government has pledged to cover the full travel expenses of Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of murdered 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, to enable her to travel to the United States for her son's funeral.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision following US President Donald Trump's directive to grant Madam Adu Gyamfi an immediate visa after an intervention by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Mr Ablakwa said he had spoken with the bereaved mother and tasked officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with assisting her throughout the visa application process.
Describing her loss as deeply painful, the Minister said the Mahama administration was committed to ensuring that she travelled to the US to bid her son a final farewell.
“The Mahama Administration will take care of the full cost of Madam Adu Gyamfi's travels and also stands ready to contribute towards a dignifying funeral,” he said in a post on X on Saturday, October 31.
The Foreign Affairs Minister welcomed President Trump's intervention and praised Mayor Mamdani for his efforts in securing the visa arrangement for the bereaved mother.
He also reiterated the government's determination to work with the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served in the murder of Javits.
“We resolve to continue to work together in securing justice for Javits,” Ablakwa added.
