Igbos Are Too Fast Learners For Their Own Good – Zubby Michael

Nollywood actor Azubuike Michael Egwu, popularly known as Zubby Michael, has opened up about the challenges Igbos face in the entertainment industry, particularly the lack of support from gatekeepers and executives.

Speaking in an interview with Broadway TV, he argued that Igbos are often sidelined because they are perceived as fast learners who can quickly outgrow their mentors.

Zubby Michael explained that many industry executives, including some Igbos, are hesitant to mentor or support their own because they fear being overtaken.

He noted that this fear of being outshined has created a barrier to support for Igbo talents in the industry.

He said:
"Igbo people are fast learners and they are capable of making it big with just a little. You might decide to mentor an Igbo person and what took you 10 years to learn, he will learn it in one year and six months. And if you don't treat him well, he will leave you and start doing the same business you taught him and become your competition. So, people are scared of that. Industry executives, including some Igbos, don't like supporting Igbos because they feel like they will get betrayed by their mentee outshining them."
