Nigerian actress Mercy Johnson has debunked viral reports suggesting that she has been diagnosed with cancer and placed on life-long medication.
The award-winning filmmaker said the rumours stem from a misunderstood segment of her television show, Mercy’s Menu, in which she recounted experiencing a health scare.
She clarified that the scare involved a swelling in her neck, initially suspected to be serious, but later diagnosed as a thyroid issue.
“I do not have cancer,” Johnson said in a video shared by Nigerian blog Yabaleftonline on social media Tuesday, May 20.
“I noticed that a clip from my TV show Mercy’s Menu has been flying around, and I think it was cut. I said I had a cancer scare… I had problems with my thyroid. I’m perfectly okay,” she added.
The actress expressed appreciation for the concern and numerous messages she received.
“Thank you so much for all of your calls and your messages… I am perfectly fine, and I do not have cancer,” she said.
Meanwhile, concerns about her health grew recently after videos surfaced online showing her with a noticeable weight loss, prompting fans to speculate about her wellbeing.
