Motorists in Kumasi have been advised to prepare for a six-hour closure of a section of the city’s Inner Ring Road on Sunday, September 6.
The Department of Urban Roads (DUR) said the closure will affect the stretch between the Ahodwo Roundabout, popularly known as the Georgia Hotel Junction, and the Ark Intersection.
The road will be closed from 9am to 3pm to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to carry out a conductor decommissioning exercise as part of an ongoing power transmission upgrade.
“The section of the Inner Ring Road between Ahodwo Roundabout (Georgia Hotel Junction) and the Ark Intersection will be closed to traffic on Sunday, 6th September, 2026, from 9am to 3pm to allow for the decommissioning exercise," the statement read in part.
The DUR, under the Ministry of Roads and Highways, announced the closure in a public notice issued by its Ashanti Regional Office.
According to the Department, GRIDCo is undertaking an upgrade of the service lines between the Anwomaso and Abinkyi substations in Kumasi.
The decommissioning of the conductors forms part of the implementation of the project and has been scheduled for Sunday, September 6.
Motorists approaching the Ahodwo Roundabout and the Ark Intersection have been directed to follow the directional signs to be placed at vantage points.
The DUR said motorists could use alternative routes, including Harper Road, Melcom Road and Lake Road, during the closure.
“All motorists approaching Ahodwo Roundabout and the Ark Intersection are to follow the directional signs placed at vantage points to use alternative roads such as the Harper Road, Melcom Road and/or the Lake Road," the statement noted.
The Department urged the public to take note of the temporary closure and plan their journeys accordingly.
