Famed Nigerian filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, affectionately known as RMD, has rejected being referred to as a legendary actor.
According to him, such titles are better suited for individuals who have been in the industry far longer and are closer to retirement.
Speaking on the Nigeria-based Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, RMD expressed admiration for veteran actors Olu Jacobs, Pete Edochie, and others whom he considers true legends.
“That whole legend thing is a scam. I have my own legends like Uncle Pete and Uncle Olu Jacobs — these are our ancestors and legends.
“I’ve been watching him (Olu Jacobs) since he used to say, ‘Ribena children are the healthy children.’ So I don’t subscribe to being called a legend. I think it’s a scam. When they call me that, I feel they are trying to relegate me to the neighbourhood of retired people or those nearing retirement,” RMD said.
Meanwhile, RMD has released a new movie titled Radio Voice, which explores themes of love, redemption, and second chances.
The film follows the story of a sex worker who becomes the saving grace of a struggling radio station.
Describing the project, RMD called it a “labour of love” and “a triumph of the human spirit over adversity.”
The film features a star-studded cast including Nancy Isime, BamBam, Kiekie, Dorcas Ariyiike, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Timini Egbuson.
