The Spiritual Witch

Short Story About Love and Money
The Spiritual Witch
20.04.2020 LISTEN

It was the freshers’ akwaaba night, I was in my 1st year at the University of Education Winneba Kumasi Campus. That is the day I saw the most beautiful girl by name Nancy. Fair in complexion and flexible in structure. A girl with a good English accent. She was a good singer too, who won many hearts in the Fresher’s talent show on campus. She was a big fan of the late dancehall and Afro-beats singer, Ebony.

We were in the same department pursuing the same program, English Language Education, but unfortunately for me she was in ‘A and I was in B.

She was an affiliate of Opoku Ware Hall and I was an affiliate of Autonomy Hall.

I used to roam around the Opoku Ware Hall block just to get a glimpse of her every day.

So after a couple of months, that was the time for our 1st semester quiz. I went late to the exams hall. I was surprised to see A and B class put together in one room for that quiz. No chance of copying, I guessed. As I went for the question paper and was about to sit I noticed that she was sitting next to me. My cheek blushed and I settled down with my question paper. I was on cloud nine, but that girl was busy reading the question paper. Half an hour went by, I opened the small piece of paper I hide in my socks. I was successful copying from the small ‘apo’ but when I was passing it to my friend I got caught by the invigilator.

That was when I became the center of attention in front of all. She stared at me. I wrote an apology letter to the lecturer who was in charge of that course and everything took a bad impression in my first meeting. First impression was bad in front of Nancy. She knows my name now. Thanks to ‘apo’. The rest of the papers I didn't copy, but prepared with utmost care and dedication.

Time went by and we were at the end of the semester. She was sitting in front of Opoku Ware Hall near the new library reading a book. My bloody idiotic friend Nnuroh pushed me towards her.

Me: Hey! Nancy

Nancy: Hi!

Me: What are you reading? (With little fear)

Nancy: A book on “how to copy in an exams without getting caught” by Mr Expert Cheater. (With sarcasm. Actually, she was reading Conspiracy of the Rich by Robert T. Kiyosaki) It was a face palm moment for me. I didn’t have any words to reply her.

Me: Can I get your number?

Nancy: Why?

Me: To get tips on how to copy in the exams without getting caught. ( she laughed her heart out)

She: By the way are you flirting with me?

Me: Why should I flirt with you? When I’m capable of loving you.

Nancy: Man! Life is not easy like you copied in the test. Go and prepare for the semester exams. (She left)

I was thrilled and baffled. I was happy and ecstatic. That first conversation with my crush. I got her number from one of my friends in English A class.

After our semester examination, I called her with great enthusiasm and courage.

Nancy: Hello!

Me: Am I speaking to Nancy?

Nancy: Yes

Me: Hello Nancy. I am Kafui Dey from who wants to be rich. Your Admirer Elijah is on the hot seat today. (With prank tone)

Nancy: Check his pocket for ‘apo’ before asking him a question. (With a sarcastic tone)

Me: Nancy, you took me in a wrong way. I am not a cheater.

Nancy: Well, where did you get my number from?

Me: Suspense

Nancy: If I don’t get an answer properly I’ll end the call.

Me: Okay, promise me that you won’t question that fellow who helped me in this saga.

Nancy: Tell me first!

Me: It’s your class representative.

Nancy: Okay. Why did you call me?

Me: Can we meet? Tomorrow evening 5:30 at the Lovers Joint, near the school clinic?

Nancy: What’s the matter?

Me: Meet me, I will let you know.

Nancy: Okay! Just 5 minutes.

Me: Thanks.

Next day evening at the Lovers Joint.

She came late by 10 minutes. I was there 15 minutes early.

Nancy: Seems like you came early?

Me: Not much. (Those who have purpose should be early to be spotted)

Nancy: What’s the matter?

I handed over my WASSCE certificate, birth certificate and passport to her.

Nancy: What is this?

Me: If we want to book a seat to travel to another country, we will fill up so many details just for travelling for hours or a day, but I would like to book my seat in your life to travel the whole life journey with you. You are my crush. I feel butterflies in my stomach when I think about you. I love you Nancy.

Nancy: Good! Where did you copy these dialogues from? Wow! You uttered everything without looking unto a piece of paper.

Me: Nancy! I’m serious.

Nancy: look, I don’t have interest in this at all. I lost my father before my teenage age. My mother took all the burden raising me. I’m interested in career than all these bullshit. I need to give my mother a peaceful life. I need to make money and I’ve got much deeper desires in life. I hope you understand it? Please concentrate on your life and education. Bye!

Me: Do you know the full form of the bye?

Nancy: What?

Me: Be with you forever.

Nancy: Hmm. Seems you are from a rich background so you were raised up in a carefree manner. Let me go brother.

Me: Brother? ( I felt like every cloud drop shatter around me)

I didn’t hear from her anymore. I just left the place with little disappointment. I bunked for a week. I left for the house.

She started missing me. She asked my friends about my whereabouts. She called my number. Everything was in vain. She fell for me finally, but this time I was the game changer.

After a week I went back to school. She saw me at the school canteen

Nancy: Where were you these past days?

Me: I went home sister.

Nancy: What for?

Me: Just for refreshment, sister.

Nancy: For Jesus sake would you stop addressing me as a sister?

Me: Okay sister.

Nancy: I will kill you, man!

Me: Well I got to go. I need to complete my assignments.

Nancy: I can help you out with it

(Confirmed! She is in love)

Me: Oh! No thanks, sister.

Nancy: Stop calling me so, I love you, goodbye.

Me: Why did you reject me then?

Nancy: I was pushing you away because I need you to pull me closer to you.

Me: Ahh! Where did you copy these lines?

Months went by, It was her birthday. I asked her to let’s celebrate it out. She agreed! I arranged for a UBER and took her out that night. It was around 9.30pm, after a typical hug and a glorious celebration.

A conversation on that night ride.

Nancy: Can I call you Alex? Instead of Elijah?

Me: Why so?

Nancy: I love that name.

Me: Okay

Nancy: Alexander! Alexander! Alexander.

Me: hahahaha! Are you doing the naming ceremony? ( She kissed me on my lips). My mind went blank. The sweetest feeling I have ever had.

I dropped her at her hall of residence at 12:45am. She texted me later after our lovely journey.

Nancy: Reached safely?

Me: Yes.

Months went by, our strong desires for each other gained momentum, but all of a sudden it took a long break. She was getting closer to one of her rich classmate. After, she started ignoring me.

She knew that I was from a poor family background. My education was taken care by a scholarship fund.

Girls get mature early in life than boys. Probably that's the reason she took a path towards luxuriousness.

‘ If money can change perspective of true and innocent love, then I must be like the phoenix bird’

By the beginning of our 4th semester, she changed completely. She was ignoring me like hell.

(the cruelness behind her beauty)

One day I saw her in a car with the rich guy. He was her classmate, A well-educated family background, Well settled father in the United Kingdom and his mother was a medical doctor at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

What else would a young lady need to get flattered?

Her affair with that rich fellow spread like wildfire on campus. My dream shattered along with my true love for her.

This guy was enjoying life with Nancy with his parents earnings. Somehow I managed to talk to Nancy after avoiding me for so long.

Me: What happened? Why have you been ignoring me all this while? What is going on between you and that guy?

Nancy: Look Mr. I always had a dream to marry a rich fellow and lead a luxurious life. I have seen the worst phase of my life since birth, so it’s time to be rich. If possible you too move on. I want to settle down with this rich guy, so I am with him. Life is about making money. If I marry you I would live a typical lower middle class family life. Fuck off with your true love. Have you ever gifted me with costly gifts? Look at this it’s a gift from him. This watch is worth 500 new Ghana cedis. I don’t like to live a bloody kind of poor life with you. I need to be rich and lead a luxurious life

I was listening to her with tears in my eyes.

Me: Happy Independence day.

Nancy: But today is not 6th March.

Me: It’s independence for you from me. (After that I left)

That is the day! my innocence turned into a man of flirt. My perspective changed. I determined and prepared myself to be rich.

I started hating girls. My motto was changed to: fuck and forget. I went through worst phase. Bitter experience with love. Exams were fast approaching. The future was scaring me like hell.

My first love ditched me. I was planning to commit suicide. A girl left me just because I'm from a poor family background.

If money can purchase true love, then I need to be rich to purchase her body to make love work. Inner desire propelled me to make money.

Yes! Getting rich is definitely worth to teach these kinds of bitches a lesson.

Dear friends according to my observation, money is by far superior than love. Love is an inner feelings towards somebody. Money is a spiritual witch that can attract love and make it grow from nowhere to somewhere. Let’s make money guys.

Be rich then all the bitches will be behind you.

MONEY IS ETERNAL

Today I've crossed all those boundaries of love

My innocence turned into arrogance.

A girl changed me completely from nothing to everything today.

I became a playboy and she is the sole reason.

I’m considerably rich in terms of peace, today.

I'm taking revenge against life.

Thanks to Nancy For making my life a hardship.

She is the reason; I lost innocence towards love and girls.

Thanks a lot to her for changing my life and perspectives.

Thanks to her for teaching me the best life advice in life.

Money is Eternal!

Money is god!

Money is everything!
