PAC chair praises NPA CEO Edudzi Tameklo’s performance at committee hearing

The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has commended the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, for his knowledge of the Authority’s operations and his handling of issues raised during a recent committee hearing.

Ms Osei Asare gave the commendation on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during a working visit by PAC members to the NPA’s head office, where she praised Mr Tameklo’s responses to questions on the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit and a licensing ratification matter.

“We are here to see for ourselves, first-hand, what exactly goes into the activities of the NPA. But I must say I was really impressed with how you carried yourself at the PAC hearing. You have knowledge of every activity under the NPA, and I think you should keep it up,” she said.

She also expressed satisfaction with his handling of the audit findings and the time taken to resolve the ratification issue.

“On every aspect he was questioned on, he was able to answer. I was also impressed with the audit on the UPPF. Another thing that impressed me was how he took the ratification matter seriously. When I look at the timeframe within which the matter was put to rest, I was impressed, and I think that is what should be done,” she added.

Mr Tameklo appeared before the PAC on October 15, 2026, to respond to questions arising from a special audit of the Authority’s operations covering the period from 2023 to 2025.

The working visit was organised to give committee members first-hand insight into the NPA’s regulatory responsibilities and its handling of concerns raised during the hearing.

Mr Tameklo said the engagement would allow the members to examine the Authority’s work on the UPPF, the Automatic Tank Gauging system, the Electronic Cargo Tracking System and quality assurance.

He noted that quality assurance remained an area of particular public interest and formed part of the Authority’s regulatory oversight responsibilities.

The NPA chief also acknowledged the support of the Authority’s Board, chaired by Alhaji Huudu Yahaya Iddrisu, and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, in providing strategic direction.

“I am fortunate to have the respected Alhaji Huudu Yahaya Iddrisu as my Board Chair. Together with the Board members, they have provided direction as we have positioned the Authority over this period,” he said.

He further praised the Minister’s leadership, describing their working relationship as “fantastic”.

During the visit, PAC members held discussions with NPA officials on quality assurance, regulatory compliance, consumer protection and matters relating to the UPPF.

The delegation also toured key facilities, including the Authority’s laboratory and Command Centre, where they received briefings on the work of its technical departments and the systems supporting its regulatory oversight.
