Government is saddened by the turn of events; losing $190million from the US government due to the termination of the PDS concessionaire agreement, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
“Humm...we wish it never transpired that way,” he told host of Dwaso Nsem Omanhene Kwabena Asante on Adom Fm.
According to him, government could have avoided the turn of events. Without explaining further, he said the investigations established that the concession agreement was unduly presented.
“Government authentication of documents (Insurance Guarantee) of proof to ensure the transfer of Electricity Company of Ghana was a sham, therefore government needed to abrogate the agreement."
In his view, government expects the service provider to operate the power distribution efficiently in avoidance of power outbreaks.
On the part of relations with the American government, he stated that other partnerships are in good standing.
He posited that government’s disagreement with the US on the termination of the PDS concession agreement is based on professional grounds and is without malice.
“This is not a case of confidence, its a difference in opinion. The US government is confident in Ghana, and Ghana likewise. In fact Ghana-American corporation is still in continuation on other relations with the exception of PDS.”
"On the other hand, Ghana have lost the $190million, and “In fact the US government has blacklisted Ghana in the application of a regional compact grant of $500million,” he stressed.
The information minister is optimistic to address lapses in regard to regional compact.
