Maxmass Supports Tarkwa SHS With Mono Desks

Tarkwa, 06 December, 2018 – MAXMASS, a local contractor of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine, has in collaboration with Iduapriem Gold Mine donated 120 pieces of mono desk furniture valued at GH₵26,000 to Tarkwa Senior High School.

The donation was made as part of the company’s support to the Social Investment Programmes of Iduapriem Gold Mine to ease the pressure on the school as a result of increased enrolment following the implementation of government’s Free Senior High School programme.

Speaking during the presentation, Senior Manager Sustainability for AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine, Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, said AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine decided to collaborate with its local contractor, MAXMASS, to come to the aid of the school when they were made aware of the students’ plight.

Mr Baidoo expressed appreciation to MAXMASS and indicated that the gesture speaks volumes that they are a responsible company who are always ready to assist in the development of their community and people. He parted MAXMASS on the shoulder for being adjudged the Best Performer in Local Content at the recently held Ghana Mining Industry Awards and urged them to do more.

The General Manager in charge of Projects at MAXMASS, Mr Joseph Amankatah, was grateful to Iduapriem Gold Mine for the mentorship and coaching which continue to propel them to do well in their operations. He encouraged the students to learn hard, stressing that “hard work breaks no bone.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, Mr Gordon Opoku Boateng, thanked AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine and MAXMASS for the collaboration. He indicated that some employees of the Iduapriem Gold Mine had earlier donated 100 pieces of plastic chairs to the school, stressing that the latest donation was a further demonstration that the mining company is always ready to come to the aid of their host communities.

Mr Opoku Boateng urged the students to make full use of the desks, assuring that the school authorities would do their best to keep the desks in proper shape and condition at all times.

MAXMASS Limited is a wholly owned Ghanaian Limited Liability company formed in December 2008 working with a multinational, Africa Mining Services (AMS) to provide mining services for Iduapriem Gold Mine. It started the Iduapriem operations on 1st March 2011 with 32 employees and seven equipment as an ancillary contractor and by 31st December 2017, it had a total workforce of 300, all Ghanaians with 39% from the host communities, 82 equipment with a well-resourced workshop. In 2017, MAXMASS helped Iduapriem Gold Mine achieve a drop in mining cost from US$3.06/t to US$2.67/t indicating 12.75% drop in mining cost by mining 30% of the total production.
