Police in Asamankese have begun investigations into an incident where a passerby was allegedly shot in his left knee after encountering some unknown people who were engaged in a fight at Sabon Zongo in the Lower West Akim District of the Eastern Region.

According to the Police, the victim, Zartey Benjamin, aged 23, was ordered by one person among the fighting group to stop when he witnessed their tussle on his way home, but on sensing danger he took to his heels and was shot in his left knee from a single barrel gun.

Confirming the incident to Citi News, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, who speaks for the Ghana Police in the Eastern Region, said the victim has been diagnosed to have three pellets in his left knee.

“On September 7th at around 8:25am, Benjamin Zartey reported that at about 12:15am on his way home behind HFC Bank at Sabon Zongo in Asamankese, he met some people fighting and one of them he could not identify ordered him to stop, but when he refused to stop and he took to his heels he was shot in his left knee from a single barre gunl”.

“He was issued a medical form to attend hospital where he was treated and discharged, but it was also made known that he had three pellets in his left knee as a result of the gun”.

“I must say that we have began investigations into the incident, and in due course we will make our findings public”.
