‘KENAS-POCALYPSE’: Is Ken On Collision Course With Anas?

KENAS-POCALYPSE: Is Ken On Collision Course With Anas?
30.05.2018 LISTEN

They say a world without vultures would be a stinky place filled with diseases and rotten carcasses. Perhaps, if there were no muckrakers, corruption would have engulfed our world. Yes, the rot would have swallowed everybody. Could you imagine, if there were no police in our society? And could you imagine a world without, nurses, doctors, farmers, teachers, carpenters, janitors, engineers etc?

Zzzzzz A bullet from a huge caliber rifle has been fired into midair, as gun powder residues forms potential damaging cloud. Apparently, the people are confused—their ears have been full. They’ve heard so much in the last few days. Their icons have seemingly locked horns thrusting each other to a bronze wall, ahead of the premiering of Anas’ #12 on Wednesday June 6, 2018.

But who’s fired the bullet?
It’s been fired by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North in the Central region of Ghana. It seems the outspoken lawmaker is on collision course with one of Ghana’s celebrated investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Is it a fairy tale or true story?
“I’ll strip this boy naked because the things he has done to Ghanaians, I was expecting that he was an angel but what he does to live, God should have struck him dead with thunder. I’ve a dossier on Anas so Kweku Baako shouldn’t dare me at all,” says Mr. Agyapong

I should say both individuals have a deserved reputation as crusaders against corruption. Mr Anas is yet to premier his latest undercover sting operation documentary dubbed Number 12 with focus on Ghana Football Association (GFA) and politics.

He’s gone undercover many times Anas does not show his face in public a method that’s drawn many criticisms in the field of journalism and the public. That notwithstanding, he’s won more than 17 international awards for his investigative work. His aim is to expose corrupt people. And I support him on that view.

On the other hand Mr. Kennedy Agyapong is a politician, a farmer, a businessman and media owner. He speaks against corruption and is well-known for his acerbic attacks on the former NDC government including his own NPP government. I share that view too.

The governing NPP has vowed to fight corruption ruthlessly and protect the public purse. In line with that pledge President Akufo-Addo has said that he’d employ any methods available to him including what he termed the ‘Anas Principle,’ to fight corruption in Ghana.

This is what Mr. Akufo-Addo said awhile back when a questioner asked what he would do differently to stop corruption regarding leakages in taxes:

“There have to be a variety of measures but the key one is the Anas’ Principle...Setting up a highly motivated professional groups of young people who will work undercover to unearth examples of corruption wherever they find it and thereby allow the authority to deal with the issue..not only to unearth but actually to deal with it in terms of sending people to court, prosecuting them and make sure the offenders are found guilty and sanctions appropriately applied,” says President Akufo-Addo.

So if the two are helping Ghana to fight corruption in the system then where from this fracas?

I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it here today: That he who fights the ghosts in Ghana fights the living. Anas is fighting corruption so is Ken. But it appears the hunters are hunting each other. Ken says he has a dossier on Anas, threatening to show them at his NET 2 TV station located at Madina Accra.

Does Ken Agyapong have what it takes to take down Anas?

Speaking on Adom TV ‘Badwam’ programme in Accra on Tuesday the legislator warned Mr. Anas not to dare travel out of the country, stressing he’s a smoking gun on the activities by the investigative journalist and his team Tiger Eye PI, which he describes as "illegal and evil". He also challenged Anas to provide concrete evidence on his source of wealth.

"The guy shouldn't travel. The guy should not leave this country because I will take him on one on one and bring the evidence out. Because he's never been fair to the people that he has destroyed and institutions that he has destroyed in this country for taking monies...We're not small boys. We are human beings. We're all Ghanaians", he said.

Mr. Agyapong revealed that the undercover journalist has been using dubious means to deceive his victims and enrich himself. He’s therefore dared Anas to prove if he pays taxes.

“I will stick my neck on the line for Ghanaians and the innocent people he has destroyed over the years. It's too much. The guy is not genuine. He's blackmailing people. He's extortionist, taking monies from people. He is evil. He’s an extortionist. He is a blackmailer.”

The MP has further alleged that Anas took money to spike a scandalous investigative piece involving some persons close to former President John Mahama in Dubai during his presidency.

“It is only when money changes hands that he doesn’t bring it [out]. I’m challenging Anas today that why didn’t he bring that video out? He wanted to bring the NDC government down, but they were smart, they played local politics, they are afraid of the guy [but] NPP is not afraid of this man [Anas]. I will strip him naked for Ghanaians to see who Anas is. And when we finish today, I’ll bring you more evidence and pictures. I’ll start by streaming them on my TV station so that Kweku Baako can sue me”, Mr Agyapong said

The lawmaker also mentioned Editor-in-chief of the Crusading Guide Kweku Baako Jr.

“If Kweku Baako knew how corrupt, evil and wicked his protégé Anas is, then he’d stop defending the his entrapment methodology he employs in his undercover journalism practice. I’ve a lot of evidence to back why I say Anas blackmails people. I’ve pictures of him in Dubai on a boat with Sam Larry and others. I said on Asempa yesterday that Anas blackmails people.

“Kweku Baako has dared me to adduce evidence. I want to ask Anas before I bring it out: The NDC people he went to Dubai with and set up using Desmond and Ahmed, where is that video?

“He [Anas] uses boys called Daniel, Desmond and Ahmed. The Dubai man he used to set up the NDC people is called Ridwan. His modus operandi is to lure the people, pretend to be an investor, take you to a hotel or an apartment fitted with secret cameras while he hides in one bedroom as Ahmed communicates with him via texts about what questions to ask as they interact with whomever is asking you questions.

“He coaches the guy what to say. Sometimes Ahmed excuses himself to use the washroom but sneaks into Anas’ hideout for more coaching. The ‘Mahama Boys’ he set up, he should bring the video out. Why didn’t he bring it out?

“He [Anas] is evil. Kweku Baako, I want to show you that your boy is evil, you don’t know him. Kweku Baako doesn’t know Anas that is why he is defending him. By the time I finish, Kweku Baako will see that he doesn’t know the guy. “He [Anas] always presents the Arab man as the businessman, his name is Ridwan, and sets up people. When he is done, he gets his pay, I’m asking: Anas, a certain work he did in Cote d’Ivoire in which he destroyed some politicians, what taxes did he pay on the money he got from that job. What is Kweku Baako talking about? I respect him a lot but I don’t fear him. “

Mr. Agyapong also cataloged a number of properties that Anas owns in Accra:

“What is fair should be fair. Go to Midas residence, Dzorwulu and take a look at the kind of building the guy and his partner, Philips, have put up, because he destroys people and makes money? Verify if a genuine journalist in this country can make that kind of money. Also, check Finis Hostel along the Prampram road, he also owns Finis Pharma which sells drugs, he owns properties in Osu, two lands at Trade Fair in Accra,”he said.
