If I were reporting news I'll have as my headline "61 year old man instigates terror" or maybe "age of terror - 61 years old sells out his family" but this isn't a time for catchy phrases but a time for another introspection into our sovereignty as a nation. I do believe that the decision of our Parliament to approve the deal of having a US "millitary base" in Ghana is a testament of our sovereignty. Only a nation capable of ruling it's own and defending it's own can allow another nation set up military operations on it's territory - but has such a thing ever happened?
We are making history in this nation. US has military bases in countries around the world but never in a peaceful country. Ghana is at peace with itself (we are a bunch of hypocritical peace lovers, remember that), at peace with it's neighbors and more importantly to me at peace with the many terrorist groups operating in the sub-region. So why topple the boat or in this case "why bring a hungry leopard into our small boat"?
The Minority in Parliament walked out yet the bill got signed and no one asks how because this is paradise and there's never trouble in paradise. Guess Ghanaian's are used to one group of adults always behaving like children when it comes to national issues. For whatever reason that our government has agreed to this deal I'll like to draw our minds to the Bible story of Jacob and Esau. Jacob had food and Esau wanted food. Esau traded his freedom for food. Nothing else was said for what is freedom when you're hungry?
How much are we getting from this deal? Can we go another day without this deal? The USA through it's ambassador has said it's not a military base and the Defense Ministry has also said it's not a military base but whatever it is can we go without it?
Experts say all evil eyes in Africa will now be turned upon us and I agree. We don't need to listen to the experts to know that, we only need to read history and watch the news. I'm no expert in military affairs and I shouldn't have tried writing this post that adds nothing to what you already know so I'll end with Esau again. Hebrews 12.16 says that later Esau realized the full cost of the food he's eaten and sought to have his sovereignty back but he couldn't. The food was gone and he couldn't reimburse Jacob for it.
Maybe the experts are wrong and no terror will come from this deal, maybe the politicians are wrong and it's not a deal for hosting a US millitary base, maybe the news is wrong and we are not been sold for a mere 20 million, maybe I should have slept longer this Saturday morning but I know there is no need to start trouble in paradise over mere rumors of bigger trouble.
