In recent times, I have been overtaken by queries as to why I somewhat relapsed into silence in the face of many ongoing incorrectness. It is not the case that I have downed my pen on such issues but I'm just tired of putting down write-ups which is just for the seek of writing and not impactful. *There have been one too many ramblings on the irresponsibility of some vandals as well as the dwindling brand of Commonwealth Hall. We grumble with no accompanying meaningful action to confront our sinking image. I have the quick action now and you will get to know this when you read this piece to the finish.*
In the aftermath of the establishment of Commonwealth Hall in 1957, the pioneers of vandalism invested precious energy and resources in building a superstructure of prestige for the hall. Veritably, the influence vandals had on the decisions and policies of the education sector in Ghana was the envy of all. The reason was not because those decisions were forceful but they were admirable masterplans. Simply, Commonwealth Hall was a breeding ground of leaders in all endeavors of life. That was the brand equity the ancient vandals strive to build- one that was healthy and with which everybody wants to associate.
Fast forward to today, the brand of being a guard of student interest has disappeared. It is therefore not surprising when some people do not want to even believe that the agitation against increased fees was an initiative of vandals. The brand that we are leaders in all endeavors is also falling. Indeed, it as though we have been programmed to move backwards. More often than not, Vandals today are seen as trailblazers of nothing but violence, Rambo-style trouble fomenter and beaters of 'gong-gong' that 'wars-wars'.
Truth Stands is a middlename we have adopted for ourselves and truth be told of that picture out there. Vandals have almost assumed a persona-non grata status in the realm of leadership. People perceive our stance to be radical, forceful and uncivil. That is the impression out there that we must strive to annihilate in unison.
Indeed if modern Vandal City was to be a human being, it can be best described as an anaemic, lanky and bedridden gentleman in the Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital.
That is a malaise whose panacea we must collectively unearth as vandals. I have crafted one. Through out my experience, I have come to realise that leadership is not about titles or position but it is about your influence, impact on your society and inspiration to your people regardless of your status in the society.
I have resolved to, in close collaboration with fellow vandals and the necessary leadership, initiate a group that will come to be known as *VANDALS VOLUNTEERS FOR BRAND RECLAMATION*. This will be a non-interest group dedicated at salvaging the brand of vandals and restoring our name. This we shall do through lecture theatre sensitisation on what vandalism stands for, inner sensitisation and through every possible means-stickers, fliers, etc. These, Insha Allah, we shall do. Many are those who have discussed this with me inclusive of *Vandal Prosper* and I hope he works closely with Vandals to achieve this if he is given the nod to be President of the JCR.
I extend an invitation to all who want to volunteer in this respect. I am will be at your beg, Just call me on 0243791484 and I will be ready meet you anywhere you are and let's hit the ground running.
Long Live Commonwealth Hall!!
Long Live Vandalism!!!
