Newly Posted Teachers To Demonstrate On March 15

Feature Article Newly Posted Teachers To Demonstrate On March 15
MAR 1, 2017 LISTEN

It has been established, the language every government understand it best happens to be a demonstration similarly, Chinua Achebe was damn right when he opined that in a situation where the center cannot hold, things fall apart! This analogy can be likened to the happenings among the recent trainees who completed the various recognized government training citadels or better still colleges in the year 2016. The financial and emotional trauma these graduants passed through when they were under training was an eye-saw since the said group wasn't fortunate to receive their monthly enticement in the form of “allowance" like their predecessors.

Teachers across the length and breadth of the country have been treated poorly over the years but the case is worse as newly posted teachers who were not lucky to receive allowance from the various colleges of education have still not been paid for working tirelessly in the last seven (7) months. The teachers who are in bad mood picket last month at the Ministry of Education (MoE) and GES headquaters in Accra but the 2016 year group of teachers have still not been giving the needed attention as their memo has been dumped in the thrash.

In respect to this, newly trained teachers from the government Colleges of Education in Ghana who were posted to the various public basic schools in October 2016 to teach may not be going to school to teach starting from 15th March, 2017.

The 2016 year group who have been treated unfairly are planning to boycott classes and demonstrate to voice out their grievances to the incumbent government. Realistically, the newly posted teachers were being promised by former President John Dramani Mahama on February 6, 2016, that they will be paid immediately after their postings because they were not fortunate enough to get allowances whiles under training, therefore, there's no way their salaries will delay.

The group stated that since last year, they are yet to hear from their employers with regards to their salaries. The group is calling on the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to with immediate effect respond to issues concerning their salaries as well as the salary arrears and the WASSCE results validation of Gambaga College of Education. More importantly, teachers who feel disappointed by the actions and inactions of GNAT and CCT are willing to join the year group to demonstrate.

The teachers also reminded government of their feeding grant which was in arrears while they were still trainees. The teachers explained the trauma they had been through since they were posted and threatened to put down their teaching and learning materials and demonstrate latest by 15th day of March, 2017.
