The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has challenged the Minority Caucus in Parliament to invite him to answer questions over claims of financial losses and alleged irregularities at the institution.
He said he is prepared to appear before the appropriate parliamentary committees and respond to allegations that GoldBod had incurred or contributed to a reported $1.7 billion loss.
The comments follow sustained criticism from members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over aspects of GoldBod’s operations and financial management.
Speaking on an X Space on Sunday, August 9, Sammy Gyamfi accused some Minority members of deliberately misrepresenting information contained in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report to create the impression that GoldBod had incurred a $1.7 billion loss.
Sammy Gyamfi said he is particularly ready to face the Public Accounts Committee, the Finance Committee, the Economy Committee and the Lands and Mines Committee to respond to the allegations.
“If they want me to appear before Parliament, I am ready. I am ready. They can invite me tomorrow, Public Accounts Committee or Committee on Economy or whatever. They should give me a Bible to swear an oath. Let's televise it and let's take their questions,” he said.
The GoldBod CEO also disputed claims that the institution was responsible for a $1.7 billion loss referenced in an IMF report.
He said the relevant portion of the report discussed the Gold for Reserves component of the country’s economic programme and did not state that GoldBod had incurred the reported loss.
“Lies have a short lifespan, and it will not be under my watch somebody with a communications background that GoldBod's good works will be tainted with lies,” he said.
