The Founder of the Shekhinah Clinic in the Northern Region where mentally ill persons, the homeless and HIV positive persons are treated for free, Dr. David Abdulai, has died at age 65.
This was confirmed by a member of his family, who said the sad event occurred at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) on Sunday evening, where he was receiving medical attention.
He left behind a wife and three children.
David Abdulai was diagnosed with stage-4 thyroid cancer in May 2016, a known aggressive and a fast spreading stage of the disease.
His situation attracted some friends of the family to set up a”go fund me” to raise money for his medical treatment and the continued operation of his clinics.
Dr. Abdulai's plight, which became public, got to government, which decided to cover the cost of his medical bills at the Ghana Sweden Medical Centre and the 37 Military Hospital.
The doctor, who was in dire need of radiation therapy, which is not offered in Tamale where he resides, and operates two free clinics, was flown to Accra on August 9, 2016.
Close sources to the family say his burial is expected to take place next week Tuesday.
Affectionately called Dr. Choggu, the medical philanthropist, Dr. David Abdulai has over the years served as a Saviour to the needy in the Northern Region who cannot foot their medical bills at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other private clinics.
Dr. David Abdulai Choggu operates two free health facilities at Gurugu and Wamale.
He established the main one at Gurugu known as Shekhina clinic in 1989 and has since saved the lives of hernia patients, HIV positive patients, the mentally ill and the homeless.
