General News Mahama Blows Ghc28m On Campaign Launch
MON, 15 AUG 2016

Yet to learn their lessons, President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress, in the lead up to this year’s elections, has started blowing huge sums of money on campaign related activities, just as they did on the eve of the 2012 election.

A confidential email intercepted by the Daily Statesman shows that the NDC spent a whopping amount of GHc28 million on its campaign launch in Cape Coast in the Central region yesterday.

The NDC government had over the years been financially undisciplined, especially during election years, and it looks like this year could be worse.

The party’s budget for yesterday’s campaign launch, dated July 5, 2016, which was signed by the campaign coordinator and national organizer of the party, Kofi Adams, was categorized into three main parts: the delegation, president/executives, and others and ancillary.

The delegation’s total amount which is GHc11,130,000 put hotel accommodation at GHc750,000; food at GHc2,250,000; per diem GHc2,000,000; TV Coverage went for GHc50,000; whilst other media coverage cost was GHc50,000. The rest are pressmen GHc50,000; venue GHc40,000; and billboards and posters for GHc750,000.

The cost on the president and his executives were as follows: hotel GHc1,000,000; food GHc500,000; per diem GHc2,500,000; vehicles and fueling cost at GHc250,000,000; whilst ancillary which included security, miscellaneous and media placement all totaled GHc4,000,000.

The nation after the 2012 elections almost grounded to a half when following the reckless use of the resources for the campaign activities of President Mahama.

As reported before, President John Dramani Mahama spent over $180 million just to ‘buy’ the 2012 election.

In the last few months to the 2012 election, Ghanaians saw the reckless spending the NDC government undertook in a desperate move to hold on to power.

According to top NDC sources, at least $180 million (nearly GHc350 million) was spent on the 2012 campaign by President Mahama and the NDC from the centre, which happened to be the most expensive campaign ever ran in this country.

Yesterday’s campaign launch and how much was spent appear more than enough to convince critical, discerning Ghanaians that the Mahama 2016 campaign will be massively driven by reckless spending.
