An Independent Parliamentary Candidate in the Jomoro Constituency Mr. Leo Kofi Armah Amenlemah says he is cocksure to grab the seat in the November 07 Parliamentary polls as most of the electorate continue to greet him with victory slogans in most of the towns and villages.
According to him, this has created so much stir in the constituency as his presence is felt in almost every part of the constituency due to a number of developmental projects he has initiated in the area and scholarship packages to some students to continue their education.
Mr. Amenlemah, who is the President of GEO IT Consult(Ghana Chapter and USA) as well as Vice-Chairman(Ohio Chapter-USA) of the National Democratic Congress(NDC),expressed these sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Elubo in the Western Region.
Readers will recall that Mr. Amenlemah contested the November 2015 primaries of the NDC in the Jomoro constituency among four others but lost to Mr. Thomas Elleam Yankey.
However,Mr.Amenlemah did not accept the outcome of the polls when Mr. Yankey emerged the winner on grounds that "there were gross anomalies which characterized the primaries"which eventually gave his opponent the upper hand.
He revealed that "several investigations and enquiries made in the constituency have proved that he Mr. Amenlemah won the NDC primaries but the collaboration between the Electoral Commission(EC) official and the constituency executives stole the verdict of the people and declared Mr. Yankey winner".
He continued that in a bid to persuade him to rescind his decision to go independent,"national executives of the NDC in their capacities as a former Regional Chairman of the party and two other Western Regional Executives called on him at his residence on April 19,2016 but he,Amenlemah was in no mood to be persuaded".
Mr. Amenlemah then told the executives of the party that "every offer that was being made to him,be given to his opponent,Mr.Thomas Yankey but all I wanted was to get my win back".
The national executive member then promised to "reflect over the issue for some time and give him the feedback but did not hear anything positive",Mr. Amenlemah recalled.
Mr. Amenlemah told the GNA that "Jomoro NDC was in turmoil as the Independent candidate(him) has gained a lot of grounds and it is almost impossible for the NDC candidate to campaign.
The Jomoro Parliamentary seat has always been for the NDC since 1992 except in 2008 when Samia Yaaba Nkrumah of the Convention People"s Party(CPP) won from the NDC but lost again to the NDC in 2012.
