Accra, July 14, GNA - Major General Obed Boamah Akwa, the former Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has handed over his responsibility to Air Vice Marshall Griffiths Santrofi Evans, the incoming Commandant of the Centre.
Brigadier General Akwa was appointed by President John Mahama and served the Centre for three years.
He said the Centre had expanded his scope of knowledge through the various courses, seminars and conferences and also widened his network of friends both in the country and abroad.
Brigadier General Akwa said the Centre had contributed in global peace which is contained in its vision to become the leading and preferred international centre for training, education and research in Africa peace and security.
He urged all staff of the Centre to give maximum support to his successor beyond the call of duty, adding that mere routine work does not produce excellence but hard work and painstaking effort make the difference.
He said his doors are always opened for advice to move the Centre forward and prayed for good fortune for the Centre.
Brigadier General Akwa thanked President Mahama for the appointment and all those who help his course of work during his three years of service.
Air Vice Evans thanked President Mahama for appointing him to steer the affairs of the Centre, saying he will continue from where his predecessor left it and called for support from all to enable him succeed.
He pledged to work diligently with the support of all stakeholders to uplift the image of the Centre and prayed that God guides his decision for the success of the organisation.
Mr Kenneth Adjei, Deputy Minister of Defence, commended the outgoing Commander for his tremendous contributions which included the establishment of a new building for the Centre's academy training school.
He welcomed the incoming Commandant, and urged him to improve upon his predecessor, stressing that the Ministry will provide any assistance to help him succeed.
