Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured victims of the recent devastating fire outbreak at the Police Barracks opposite the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters in Accra Central of the government's unwavering support as recovery efforts begin.

The Minister pledged, during a visit to the affected barracks on Friday, accompanied by the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief Fire Officer, to assess the extent of the damage caused by the blaze, which displaced several families and destroyed property.

According to Mr. Muntaka, government is already putting in place measures to ease the burden on affected residents, including the provision of temporary accommodation while plans are finalized for the reconstruction of the damaged barracks.

He disclosed that victims will also receive cash support, clothing, and other relief items through the National Disaster Management Organisation as part of efforts to help them rebuild their lives.

"The visit was to assess the situation firsthand, interact with affected residents, and assure them of Government's commitment to supporting them in this difficult period," the Minister stated in a post shared on his official Facebook page.

Mr. Muntaka commended the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Management Board, and the Ghana National Fire Service for what he described as a swift and coordinated response that helped manage the incident and safeguard residents.

He further stressed that government would continue working closely with relevant institutions to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.

As part of his visit, the Interior Minister also paid a visit to a police officer who sustained injuries during the fire and is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

He expressed sympathy to the injured officer, praised the medical team for their professionalism, and assured him of government's full support throughout his recovery.

The Minister reiterated that government remains committed to standing with all affected families as recovery and rebuilding efforts progress.

The fire incident has sparked concerns over safety conditions at some public residential facilities, with many looking forward to swift intervention and reconstruction efforts to restore normalcy for displaced residents.
