NADMO receives relief items for Ghanaian children evacuated from South Africa

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has received a donation of relief items to support Ghanaian children being evacuated from South Africa, as efforts continue to provide care and assistance to affected families.

The donation, made jointly by the Global Association of Women in Leadership, Ghana, Thy Faithfulness Foundation, Australia, and Berks Concept, comprised clothing, stationery and water bottles intended to help meet the immediate needs of the children upon their return.

Presenting the items on behalf of the donor organisations, Madam Benedicta Ohenewaa said the gesture formed part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable women and children in times of need.

She explained that the organisations were moved to act after learning about the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa, particularly the challenges facing children caught up in the situation.

“When we heard about the evacuation of our brothers and sisters from South Africa, we felt compelled to offer support in our own small way. We believe this donation will help make the children feel valued and cared for during this difficult period,” she stated.

Madam Ohenewaa noted that while the items may not address every challenge confronting the affected families, they represent a symbol of solidarity and compassion from individuals and organisations committed to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.

Receiving the items on behalf of NADMO, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr Lutfia Saeed Jamal, expressed gratitude to the donor organisations for their timely intervention and commitment to humanitarian causes.

She described the donation as a meaningful contribution that would help ease the burden on the children and provide essential support as they adjust to their new circumstances.

Dr Jamal assured the donors that the items would be delivered to the intended beneficiaries and used for the purpose for which they were donated.

She commended the organisations for complementing government efforts to support vulnerable persons and communities during periods of crisis.

According to her, partnerships between public institutions and private organisations remain critical in responding effectively to humanitarian challenges and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Dr Jamal noted that the collaboration would strengthen relations between NADMO and the donor organisations, creating opportunities for future partnerships in humanitarian assistance, disaster response and community development.
