A petition by suspended NPP Chairman Paul Afoko was nearly thrown out by the National Council after it emerged the document had not been signed by the petitioner.
That was not the only deficit of Mr. Afoko's petition, the lawyer who signed the document also signed off "on behalf of the National Chairman."
Members of the National Council, which is the second highest decision-making body of the party strongly contemplated throwing out the petition for lack of signature.
They were also infuriated by the manner in which Mr. Afoko's lawyer signed off the petition, insisting it showed Afoko's disrespect for the party's structures.
Some of the Council members did not understand why the lawyer should be appealing against Afoko's suspension whilst at the same time subtly maintaining that he is still the substantive Chairman of the party.
According to Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, it took the intervention and tireless appeals of the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo for the Council to rescind its decision to return the petition to Afoko.
The National Council, Kwakye reported, is determined to hear Afoko's petition and decide his fate today.
More soon.
