Political scientist, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, says any attempt to reinstate embattled National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko would prove disastrous for the party.

According to the former Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), giving Mr Afoko back his job will create more confusion in the party.

Dr. Amoako-Baah was speaking Tuesday Evening on Adom FM’s 6pm news programme.

He told news anchor Kofi Adomah Nwawani that a petition by Mr Afoko to the National Council of the party challenging his removal by the National Executive Committee would not fly.

“Akofo is going back to the party as what?” Dr. Amoako-Baah quizzed.

Mr Afoko had said in the petition that his removal from office breached party constitution.

Afoko was booted out of office by the NPP NEC for actions deemed destructive to party unity.

The suspended party chair went to court to seek redress. However, the High Court dismissed the suit that sought to challenge the process that led to his indefinite suspension.

Recently, a group of concerned NPP members drawn from various constituencies and polling stations in Ghana petitioned the party to reinstate Afoko. They held that the party must respect their decision at the Tamale congress, where Mr Afoko was elected.

However, Dr Amoako-Baah said “reinstatement of Afoko will be fire in the party and it will bring worse things in the party than what is happening in the NPP now”.

Dr. Amoako-Baah said Afoko’s petition to the National Council is belated, noting that the suspended party chair should have made the petition immediately after the NEC decision.

“It’s too late for the party to reinstate him because the demonstration and court action has failed him” he stressed.
