
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Yagaba/Kubori Constituency, Hon Mustapha Ussif has appealed to government to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the constituency and its environs with basic social amenities including electricity.
He made the call on the floor of Parliament recently when asked the Minister for Energy and Petroleum when an on-going project to connect the Yagaba/Kubori constituency to the National Electricity Grid would be completed.
According to the MP, no single community in the whole constituency and district for that matter is connected to the national grid and wondered why that level of discrimination in the sharing of the national cake.
He expressed worry that the absence of electricity in the area is affecting health delivery and the economic livelihood of residents.
The MP noted that, his constituents especially women who should have been engaged in petty businesses activities like ice water and soft drink selling among others were unable to do so due to the absence of electricity.
He urged government to focus on deprived communities in the provision of assets to ensure equitable distribution of resources especially basic amenities like electricity, roads, health posts and water to enhance the living conditions of all citizens' especially rural dwellers.
Hon Mustapha Ussif however expressed optimism that the area would be connected to the national grid by the middle of December, 2014 as promised by the Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.
In a related development, the MP has disclosed that, he had since 2013 through the MP`s Common Fund provided and ambulance for the community to facilitate health delivery, registered 4,000 constituents free of charge unto the National Health Insurance Scheme, provided 200 students with scholarships to pursue tertiary education and lobbied with the private sector to provide the services of tractors to enhance agriculture production in the area.
