On My Humble Mind: Towards Election 2016 Let's Eschew Complacency

Feature Article On My Humble Mind: Towards Election 2016 Let's Eschew Complacency
NOV 20, 2014 LISTEN

In spite of the seeming hopelessness of the current governance under the NDC, as a political party there's the need to eschew complacency towards the 2016 election.

We should consider every possible scenario within the complex web of the Electoral systems in the country to be able to win the election 2016.

The 2012 election showed that, to win an election and to be declared as same involves more than the casting of votes in our favor.

The NDC may have some well thought out and clandestine strategy for the 2016 election.

Let's hit them as hard as possible in the social and mass media and expose every possible nefarious activity in the Mahama administration.

Let's institute and lead a coalition of all opposition political parties, civil society organizations, organized labor, various groups and all politically active Ghanaians in a consistent and concerted efforts to ensure that we win and be declared as winners of the 2016 elections.

Being vigilant on election day is extremely important. However our vigilance must begin right from now. It may be too late to correct fraudulent and clandestinely procured electoral victory by the NDC.

We should go behind the scenes to ensure that all the loopholes are plugged. There are many different ways to rig an election without raising red flags.

The Supreme Court verdict on our 2012 election petition has opened up a plethora of issues that require deep strategies to cure. Our political adversaries may do things differently.

The clarion call in the 2012 was ensuring that no one touched the ballot boxes. In the 2012 electio8, no ballot boxes were snatched yet many other fraudulent activities were perpetuated which significantly contributed to deny the Presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NDC beat us to it in 2008 and 2012, let's ensure that a repeated dose does not befall us in 2016. Ghanaians are desperately looking forward to the excellent governance under the leadership and presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo.

The NDC has shown that they lack the well withal to transform the economy of the country. Despondency and desperation have become the bane of many Ghanaians.

Corruption and nepotism has eaten deep into the fabric of the government.

Allegations of official collusion and VVIP treatment is accorded illicit drug peddlers. The arrest of media personnel by the BNI is taking Ghana back to the culture of silence experienced in the country prior to the expunging of the criminal libel laws from our statute books under President J.A Kufuor with Nana Akufo-Addo as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

The 2015 fiscal budget read by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Seth Terkper with the introduction of a whopping 17.5 % VAT on all petroleum products under a certificate of urgency is indicative of how incentive and visionless and an "yen tie obia" attitude of President Mahama's NDC government.

There the need to see the back of the NDC government in 2016. The New Patriotic Party is the only alternative capable to wrestle power from the NDC government. However, we can help ourselves and redeem the people of Ghana from hardships and under development if we are declared winners by the EC after the 2016 elections.

The people of Ghana may resort to taking up mass protests akin to the Arab Springs if the NPP reneged on our responsibility to ensure that the 2016 election is won with Nana Akufo-Addo as the president of Ghana and sworn in on 7th December, 2017 to put pragmatic measures in place to bring back hope in the population.

There is more to casting of votes in our favor to our being declared winners by the EC.

Thank you.
