Torgbui Fiti Warns Anlo State

The Paramount chief of the Aflao Traditional area, Togbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, has warned the Anlo Traditional Council not to interfere with issues relating to his traditional area.

Togbui Fiti, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE yesterday, emphatically denied claims that the Aflao Traditional area is part of the Anlo Traditional Council.

He stated that he owes no allegiance to the Anlo Traditional Council, stressing that the Chieftaincy Act allows paramount chiefs to be autonomous in the country.

He therefore pleaded with government, National House of Chiefs and Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC), as well as other bodies to call members of the Anlo Traditional Council to order.

The chief, in a three-page communiqué, also accused the Anlo State of evolving a plan to install a chief from Anlo to usurp his powers.

He called on the Anlo Traditional Council to desist from the divide and rule tactics that could disturb the peace in the traditional area.

The communiqué, a copy of which is in the possession of DAILY GUIDE, chronicled how Torgbui Fiti's ancestors ascended the throne due to the bravery of a Fiti who fought and defeated pirates that arrested and killed his brother, Togbui Quakoe Ahonor VIII, who was the then paramount chief of the traditional area.

The statement also noted that a government gazette issued in 1912 by the then Governor of Gold Coast, Herbert Bryan grouped 10 independent tribal groups, including Aflao into an administrative unit of the Quittah District.

Togbui Amenya Fiti V said 'the people of Aflao very much cherish this partnership created among the Anlos and other neighbours by the said government gazette and would wish this type of partnership or alliance to continue with due respect for each other.'

Togbui Fiti V therefore appealed to government to intervene in the matter before the situation gets out of control.

He added that 'for the interest of peace and security, Mr. Kwadzovi Fiho shall be welcome to Aflao as an ordinary citizen or native but not as chief until otherwise directed by court of competent jurisdiction.''

A High Court in Ho yesterday granted bail to Mr. Fiho, also known as Togbui Afla Awunor Detu IX, claimant of the Aflao Stool.

He is to reappear on 16 th  October, 2014.
Torgbui Afla Detu and five others were arrested by the Police last Thursday after violating Police directives not to enter the town after intelligence revealed that his actions could spark violence.

He was charged with organizing a public event without recourse to the Public Order Act and two counts of offensive conduct.
