Akorpong-Akuapem, April 30, GNA - The Akuapem North District Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), presented relief items to Assembly members in the district for distribution to victims who were affected by rainstorm in the area early this month.

The District Co-ordinator of NADMO, Mr Seth Okyere, on Thursday presented the items, which were estimated at over 50 million cedis, to the District Chief Executive, Dr (Mrs) Eugenia Dankwa-Quist. The items included five bales of second-hand clothing, 100 foam mattresses, 37 packets of roofing sheets, 50 plastic mats, 200 plates, 200 cups, 50 blankets and 50 buckets.

Mr Okyere said though the presentation would not be enough for the victims, it could help bring relief to them to enable them to go about their normal duties.

He advised the Assembly members to initiate plans that could assist in preventing disasters.

Dr (Mrs) Dankwa-Quist thanked NADMO for the donation and commended all those who helped to send the disaster victims to the Hospitals. She said the Assembly was sourcing funds to assist farmers in the area to enable them to improve their economic well-being.

Dr Dankwa-Quist appealed to the Assembly members to encourage people in their communities to embrace the tree-planting programme to prevent disasters.

She said the District Office of the NADMO had made a nursery of 100,000 economic trees to be supplied to the people adding that the government would support the planters during the first three years of the exercise.
