Northern Chiefs Must Show Interest In SADA

The Northern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on chiefs from the three Northern Regions to show deep interest in all issues relating to the operation of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

In a statement issued to the media and signed by the Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Salifu Sule, the party is not happy at all that the three Northern Region Houses of chiefs in have remained silent in the face of the rumpus that has characterize the operation of SADA since its inception.

According to the statement, “All official records from governmental and non governmental agencies shows the three Northern Regions were the poorest in the country”. And it was therefore unacceptable for the chiefs from the 3 Northern Regions to keep quite in the face of the gross mismanagement of the SADA fund which is aimed at bridging the development gap between the North and the South.

The statement wondered why the chiefs of Northern Ghana are not calling on both the government and the SADA authorities to appraise them with the operation of the Authority which among other things is aimed at accelerating development in the North and to help eliminate poverty among the people and to as well create job opportunities for the teaming unemployed youth.

Whilst the statement admonished the Northern chiefs to begin to take keen interests in the SADA affairs, it has also called on government to set up an independent body to enquire into the operation of SADA.

The statement also commended the reconstituted board of SADA and appealed to them to avoid the pit-hole that the outgoing board could not clear.
