New designations have been approved for the Ghana Prisons Service.
Per the approval, the Director of becomes Director-General.
The Deputy Director General of Prisons is now Deputy Controller-General of Prisons, Director of Prisons becomes Deputy Controller of Prisons and Assistant Director of Prisons is now Assistant Controller of Prisons.
According to a release containing the changes and signed by DSP Vitalis Aiyeh, Chief Public Relations Officer, Ghana Prisons Service, all other ranks below the aforementioned remain unchanged.
According to the Chief Public Relations Officer, the change has been necessitated by the need to expunge the ambiguities that, as he put it 'distort the uniqueness of the ranking system, which often makes it difficult for the public to differentiate between Prisons Senior Management from ordinary administrative designations of sister security services in the country.'
The Ghana Prisons Service as a member of the African Correctional Services Association has decided to adopt this change in nomenclature in line with what pertains in other correctional services on the African continent,' it noted.
The approval was given by the Office of the President through the Ministry of the Interior.
