COLOGNE-BASED Ghanaian scholar, Dr. Chrys Kwesi Sackey and his German wife, Miss Claudia Anke Newiger, have been installed the Nkosuohene and Nkosuohemaa of Asuboi near Suhum in the Eastern region.
Dr. Sackey now answers to the stool name of Nana Kwadwo Owusu I, Nkosuohene, whiles the wife, is now known as Nana Adwoa Adobea I, Nkosuohemaa.
The installation was witnessed by Nana Berima Boateng Ahyia I, alias Mr. Kwame Boateng, chief of Asuboi and the queen mother, Ohemaa Yaa Asantewaa also known private life as Madam Yaa Asantewaa.
The high priest of Suhum, Asuboi and Obo Kwawu, Nana Kwame Kwaakye took the couple through all the necessary rituals for the installation last November 18, 2013, at an impressive ceremony at Asuboi.
The decision by the chiefs and people of Asuboi to confer the title of Nkosuohene and Nkosuohemaa (Chief and queen mother in charge of development) was an indication of their preparedness not to entrust their socio-economic fate in the hands of politicians any longer.
The choice of Dr. Sackey is premised on his background as having previously built schools (JSS/Kindergarten at Mumford in the Central region and Sofokrom, near Sekondi, in the Western region) among other development activities.
Nana Kwadwo Owusu I (Dr. Chrys Kwesi Sackey) is the patron of the Cologne branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Germany, while Nana Adwoa Adobea I (Ms. Newiger ) 40, is a senior sales officer at the largest global employment center in Germany.
The new Nkosuohene and Nkosuohemaa have indicated their intentions to play an effective role by setting short, medium and long terms goals for development plans but with the co-operation of the people.
Nana Kwadwo Owusu I explained that in the short term equipment of the hospital and reparation of the streets and sanitation equipments would be considered and look at small scale industries, like fish farms, sliced tilapia canned for export, fruits and juice and solar factory under medium term, so that young men and especially women stay in their town and not wander or loiter in the capital to sell toilet rolls and water on the streets of the capitals, creating ghettos, crowding the cities, causing housing shortages and increased rent.
The couple would see to the construction of a Secondary school as a long term project.
The Nkosuohene, who noted that he was fit and able for the noble task of championing the development in the Asuboi traditional area says he would rekindle the strong communal spirit among the people for the development of not only Asuboi community but the entire Eastern region at large.
He said the new position conferred on them is an opportunity to put into practice a concept of Ghanocracy (Ghana plus “cracy”) at the expense of democracy, which he noted, had killed the traditional communal spirit along party lines so that nothing works for the common welfare of the citizens in a town.
The new Nkosuohemaa of Asubo, Nana Adwoa Adobea has also indicated that she would help exploit her connections to big firms and organizations and affiliation to former university friends at Frankfurt to help with the socio-economic development of the Asuboi area.
Meanwhile, Nana Adwoa Adobea has lauded Ghana's social order seen as real and a contributing factor to the stability she has enjoyed all these years.
She told The Chronicle in a telephone conversation to express her feelings after her installation that the base of Ghana's prosperity is peace.
She was enthused about the peaceful co-existence of Muslims and Christians, a situation she said must jealously be guarded to avoid the experience of Boko Haram in Nigeria.
She described Ghana as a great land. 'Ghana is peaceful as its people are hospitable. Indeed, Ghana is a paradise. Ghana is culturally rich, nature is beautiful and the environment clean, compared to other developing countries like Thailand, Philippines and India,' she noted.
The new Asuboi Nkosuohemaa has, therefore, urged Ghanaians to make every effort at maintaining its social values by preserving its rich culture.
She urged Ghanaians to be proud of their culture, historical background and festivals and live them in order to resist the temptation of adulteration by foreign cultures.
She expressed the need for Ghana to be properly sold to the outside world to attract investors and developing partners, who abound in Germany, to consolidate the rich cultural values. E N D.
