Torrential rains have inundated the premises of the Wenchi High Court in the Bono Region, destroying essential court materials, including case files and record books.
Other office equipment has also been badly affected, while leakages from the courtroom roofing have forced the temporary closure of the court.
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the premises, on Wednesday and Thursday (June 3-4), floodwaters had spread across the compound, with anxious litigants and judicial service staff visibly distressed.
Although judicial service personnel declined to comment officially, one of them said the persistent leakages had frequently disrupted proceedings.
“The leakages from the roofing always force the court to adjourn sitting anytime there is a downpour,” the source said.
The GNA gathered that the rains, which began on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, have continued intermittently in the Wenchi Municipality.
Some litigants and clients who use the facility appealed to the government to urgently rehabilitate the court building and complete the new court complex initiated by the previous administration.
They noted that the courts play a key role in revenue generation and administration of justice and therefore should not be neglected.
