Access Bank Ghana recently added the Visa Prepaid Card to its bouquet of card products to strengthen its retail banking operations.
The visa prepaid card is cedi-denominated and allows both customers and non-customers to load cash and use the funds on millions of Visa automated teller machines (ATMs) and Point of Sale (POS) devices.
The product is targeted at short stay travellers such as Hajj pilgrims, business men and women, students and professionals, who pay for professional subscriptions abroad.
Managing Director of Access Bank, Dolapo Ogundimu, who made this known during the launch of the service at the National Hajj Village in Accra, said the timing of the launch of card was crucial as it would offer over 5,800 pilgrims a safe, reliable and convenient way of keeping and accessing their money during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
Chairman of the National Hajj Committee, Alhaji Rauf Tanko, expressed appreciation to Access Bank for providing a tailor-made product for the convenience of Hajj pilgrims.
He said the bank's support over the past four years has been meaningful and gave an assurance that the committee would continue to partner the bank to support Hajj programmes in future.
The Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank, Stephen Abban, said the product had been designed with the needs of the ordinary customer in mind.
He added that it has been tested and verified by Visa.
He said card holders would avoid exchange rate losses since they do not have to go through the stress of buying foreign currency.
Also, they could buy the local currency of their destination country upon arrival.
Access Bank also donated 5,800 travel pouches to help pilgrims to secure their travel documents.
